Whoever says that they are too old and too big to start adult swimming lessons obviously have no idea what they are talking about. It usually boils down to shame, an unbelief that at such an age, they do not know how to swim – something toddlers do at the pool, something 6 year olds do at the beach, something probably one of their younger relatives, or even their child is doing way better then they are. While they won’t admit it, it is a question of pride as they think that the sight of a fully grown adult floundering at the shallow end of the pool is about as dignified as being caught in someone else’s lingerie cabinet. But I am here to say that it is never too late to start and adults should set aside their pride for an activity that has so many benefits. Why is it too late to start? It isn’t. Disabled people are swimming. Mentally under developed individuals are swimming.
And you who have the limbs of a healthy human individual won’t start? It’s time to re assess your mental state and understand that you are going through like with an added disadvantage. You can’t swim means if you have kids, you can’t join them in one of the best bonding activities there is. While it is understandable that at an advanced age, some of us can’t keep up with our energetic bunnies of children in running and kicking a ball around, but swimming is one of the sports that therapist say is easier to adapt to. The same logic also comes into play when we are talking about keeping fit as we get older. As joints get eroded and age catches up on us, most of us are limited to what we can do to keep fit.
While issues like lifting weights and running are not out of the question, physical therapists are dubious about the positive effects of these activities and more like them, because how hard they are on the joints when we are young gets multiplied a couple of times. Pain and prolonged aches are a common feature, just as it is harder for older people to repair their muscles after a relatively intense workout session. Swimming is the middle ground, the solution to most of our problems. It keeps us lean because it is an excellent calorie burner, it keeps the muscles active as it is works the upper and lower body with equal intensity and it works out the most important muscle of all – the heart, which ensures that passages are not blocked and our cardio vascular system remains healthier than most who are inert and do not exercise on a daily or even bi daily basis.
So as you can see, there are so many benefits to adult swimming lessons and I have seen geriatrics taking swimming lessons on recommendations of their doctors. It is never too late to start and if that is stopping you from signing up, then think again and do yourself a favour.

What's best the best way to learn guitar for one person may not be the best for someone else. The different options are to try to teach yourself, hire a private instructor, learn from a book, an online guitar kit / guide or if you're lucky and have a friend who plays that can maybe teach you some lessons.
To learn from just a guitar lessons book is the old way to learn guitar. Without you had rich parents back in the day learning from a book was the only way. But there was an addition of the CD or tape to help you hear what it sounds like which adds appeal. But it's still hard when you can not see what you're supposed to be doing.
Now DVD or video is probably the best way to learn guitar because you can hear what it's called to sound like and see what the instructor is doing and can rewind and practice a certain part over and over until you get it. Even for advanced players it's nice for learning the more advanced techniques
membership sites are a good way to go because they offer everything that these other things do not. You have a private instructor that shows you videos that you can rewind over and over and different playing styles. It's also cheaper than a private tutor and you do not have set schedule, you can go at your own pace instead of an hour once a week.
There are lots of online guitar lesson sites on the web and it can be confusing when deciding what's right for you.

The year was 1966. Guitars had already been around for some time. People expected them to be more or less of a certain type and design. There were not any real radical innovations in the manufacture of the guitar. And then came along a company by the name of Ovation. They were not going to just make another guitar. They were going to come out with something completely different. So in 1966, when they broke out into the scene, they came out with their very unique round back guitar, thanks to a guy by the name of Charlie Kaman. The pro musicians of the time absolutely loved the guitar. The guitar purists were not quite as enthused. They just did not get it.
The odd part of how this guitar actually came to have had nothing to do with guitar manufacture at all. Kaman's knowledge of helicopters and more specifically, helicopter blades, game him a really good understanding of vibration and applied this principal to the making of his new guitar model.
Kaman said that he did not want to just make another guitar. He said that we had the technology to make something really different and not only different, but better. So Kaman chose a team of engineers and technicians from the aerospace industry to work on his new project. It did not hurt that many of these guys had taken up woodworking as a hobby.
What these scientists had come up with was that the common flat body of the guitar was actually not a help but a hindrance to the sound of the guitar. So the first thing they did was break the first rule of making a guitar. They chucked the idea of the flat body completely and made the round body. This design actually wave the guitar a more consistent sound from the bass end to the treble end. They also made the guitar stronger and more sturdy.
Today, Ovation makes a large number of guitar models including the LX Series Standard Balladeer. This guitar is a 6 string acoustic / electric. Its body is a mid depth bowl type. It has a bound rosewood fretboard, rosewood bridge and original patented pickups. The Standard Balladeer is one of Ovations most popular guitar models.
Then of course you have the Custom Legend guitar series. The 1779 USA model has a painted American Flag on the body that is just breathtaking. It also has a mid depth body, bound ebony fretboard and ebony bridge. Even if you do not play the guitar, this is one show piece that just having around the house is going to bring up lots of discussions.
The Elite series has a mid depth cutaway body type. The fretboard is bound ebony with an ebony bridge. It comes with an Ovation Hi-Output pickup which is really loud. This is one guitar that you will not have any trouble hearing even in a large hall.
These models only scratch the surface of the Ovation guitar line, all featuring their round body.
Whatever the critics may think, these guitars sound like none other on the planet.

Okay. What we have here today is the Eb scale. This scale could be called the D # MAJ scale but that is not too common. The Eb scale is great for blues, rock, and heavy metal. Many guitarists will tune their guitars down one half step, equal to one fret, so that their guitars sound a little deaf and the strings are looser. Looser strings are great for the blues because they are easier to bend and manipulate. Blues guitar has a lot of bending in it. It's probably one of the most common techniques of the blues. Bending can be a lot of fun once you are able to bend the strings well.
The notes in the Eb MAJ scale are as follows: Eb FG Ab Bb CD Eb
Here's one common finger position where you can play it.
E | ———————————————— ———– 10-11-13 —
B | ———————————————— – 11-13 —————
G | ————————————– 10-12-13 —– ——————-
D | ————————- 10-12-13 —————— ——————-
A | ———— 10-11-13 ——————————- ——————-
E | —- 11-13 —————————————– ——————– |
Once you learn this scale position you should be able to play it up and down, frontwards and backwards. You can try playing the notes out of order and just have fun messing around with the scale. See if you can find some songs that the scale sound good when played over. You can also find many different practice track mp3's on the internet if you look around.
It takes a lot of practice to learn how to play the guitar or any instrument for that matter. Keep an eye out for other articles I write covering other scales, techniques, exercises, and theory.
